AFAAS Staff Hail Outgoing Executive Director – Dr. Silim Nahdy

In an emotional leadership handover event at the AFAAS Secretariat, staff members recently honoured outgoing Executive Director Dr. Silim Nahdy as he formally passed responsibilities to his successor, newly appointed Executive Director Dr. Lilian Lihasi Kidula. During the in-house ceremony, AFAAS colleagues expressed gratitude to Dr. Silim through words of appreciation, shared experiences, and best wishes.

The Director of Finance and Administration, Mrs. Cate Mubiru Kalungi, described Dr. Silim as a visionary leader of exceptional integrity:
“I’ve worked with you for nearly 20 years, Dr. Silim, and I’ve never encountered such a visionary leader. When you conceptualized an idea, you spent sleepless nights ensuring its fruition. You valued everyone’s efforts even when performance faltered. I recall raising concerns about underperformance, but you would personally guide individuals to improve.”

Paddy Wanzala, Procurement Lead at AFAAS, thanked Dr. Silim for enduring support and open dialogue:
“Your openness fostered candid discussions. You elevated AFAAS to remarkable heights—please continue supporting us to maintain this legacy as you move forward.”

Esther Michaala, Administrator and Executive Secretary to the Executive director, shared emotionally:
“It’s painful to accept your departure. You’ve been a father, friend, and mentor. I will miss you, sir, and pray you find greater happiness ahead.”

Collin Chemutai, ICT Support Officer, acknowledged Dr. Silim’s role in his professional growth:
“Your encouragement strengthened my capacity and confidence. I’m committed to improving in all areas you highlighted until I become a renewed professional.”

Peter Ssebugwawo, AFAAS Internal Auditor, noted Dr. Silim’s legacy of integrity:
“Under your leadership, AFAAS achieved clean audits and implemented transformative projects. Since our days in Kawanda, I’ve witnessed your determination—from revolutionizing citrus production to driving NAADS and now AFAAS. You are a star, and greater achievements await you.”

The Incoming Executive Director Dr. Lilian Lihasi Kidula commended Dr. Silim’s leadership:“Thank you for building a resilient AFAAS. Though filling your shoes won’t be easy, I pledge to consult you as we strengthen this institution further and make you proud.”

In an emotional address, Dr. Silim thanked the team:
“Farewells are painful—you’ve been family. I leave behind a stable, strong continental body. I trust you’ll keep the candle burning for a better AFAAS.”
