The Global Forum for Rural Advisory Services – GFRAS and its constituent Networks (African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services – AFAAS, Asia Pacific Forum for Rural Advisory Services – APIRAS & and Latin America Forum for Rural Advisory Services – RELASER) developed a joint proposal titled Delivering extension Services to the Last Mile Programme (LMP): Improving smallholders’ access to innovation and pluralistic, demand-driven extension services. It is funded and managed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) as well as Heifer International and the European Union. The goal of LMP is to contribute to the achievement of improved incomes, sustained market linkages and reduction of climate vulnerability for smallholder farmers. The overall objective is to enhance the capacity of public and private service providers of agricultural extension and rural advisory services to deliver services to the last mile. Specific objectives are i) to mobilize, organise and build the capacities of public/private RAS providers (RASPs) to deliver effective, innovative services – linked to all actors in agricultural innovation system and to smallholder farmers; and ii) to generate and contribute knowledge needed to promote scaling up of climate resilient good practices to smallholder farmers and for promoting favourable policies and investments in RAS.
