National Farming and Extension Conference in Malawi
For the past years, MaFAAS has been conducting annual events aimed at sharing best practices concerning farming, extension and agricultural advisory services in Malawi targeting various stakeholders. From 2011 to 2014, MaFAAS organized one to two days events where stakeholders expressed the need for more time for this annual gathering. As such from 2015 to 2017 MaFAAS organized extension weeks to allow more time for sharing of best practices. The 2017 extension week incorporated a Farmers’ day aimed at creating an interface between farmers and different players in the agricultural value chains. Farmers appreciated and demanded more time for events of this nature. In 2018 a farmers’ conference was organized aimed at enabling farmers and other stakeholders in agriculture to share experiences and lessons, network, discuss critical issues and develop an action plan to address issues such as access to land, markets, finance, extension, research and value addition under the theme is “Hear farmers’ voices for agricultural transformation”. Farmers raised a number of issues but time and other logistics did not allow an interface between professionals and the farmers.
It is against this background that MaFAAS has organized a National Farming and Extension Conference targeting all stakeholders to provide a link between the 2018 farmers’ recommendations and provision of relevant services for agricultural transformation.
