Judging Criteria for Country Hackathon

Breakdown of Scoring

Each category will have two judges who will evaluate the solution against the criteria below:

Technology (1 from Hacklab and 1 from AFAAS/Country)

a. Technical Simplicity: Each Technology Judge may award up to ten (1-10) point for the simplicity of the solution for the end user

b. Execution & Documentation: Each Technology judge may award up to fifteen (1-15) points for properly structuring their source code and documentation to meet the standards of an open source project

c. Judge’s Favorite: Each Technology Judge may award up to five (5) points at their discretion for their impression on the use of technology to solving the defined problem.

d. A maximum of thirty (30) points will be awarded by each Technology Judge.

Social Impact (2 from AFAAS/Country)

a. Relevance to Stakeholders and Society: Each Social Impact Judge may award up to fifteen (1-15) points for the relevance of the solution based on the defined problem statement and the stakeholders the solution is targetted to.

b. Degree of Inclusiveness/Degree of Limitations: Each Social Impact Judge may award up to ten (1-10) points for ensuring all targetted stakeholders are accomodated for without any physical or social limitations.

c. Judge’s Favorite: Each Social Impact Judge may award up to five (5) points at their discretion for their impression on level of Social Impact the proposed solution will create.

d. A maximum of thirty (30) points will be awarded by each Social Impact Judge.

Project Sustainability & Scalability (2 from AFAAS/Country)

a. Sustainability of Solution: Each Project Sustainability & Scalability Judge may award up to fifteen (1-15) points for the sustainability of solution based on its design, requirements to keep it running efficiently and maintenance.

b. Scalability of Solution: Each Project Sustainability & Scalability Judge may award up to ten (1-10) points for the scalability of the solution based on its design, implementation and ease to scale to serve more groups.

c. Judge’s Favorite: Each Judge may award up to five (5) points at their discretion for their impression on the sustainability and scalability of the solution

d. A maximum of thirty (30) points will be awarded by each Project Sustainability Judge

Total Team Score

The maximum score possible for each category will be the same.
Total Score (maximum of 90 points) = Technology (maximum of 30 points) + Social Impact (maximum of 30 points) + Project Sustainability (maximum of 30 points)
